MIDWXST STARTING ENGINES IN ATLANTA: THE RACE TO BACK IN ACTION 4
Jun 13, 2024

Midwxst is one of music’s most dynamic artists out right now. Hailing from Indiana, the 21 year old hyperpop breakout star is gearing up to release the 4th installment of his Back in Action series. This series has seen Edgar (Midwxst) collaborate with the likes of Ericdoa, DC the Don and even Babytron just to name a few. With BIA 4.0 having a heavy car theme, it only made sense to kick the launch off with a show at Atlanta Motor Speedway at a car show thrown by PINKFLAMINGOUSA and Clean Culture.
Edgar performed the entire BIA 4.0 tracklist including songs like So What, Threats, MIA, No Lease as well as his upcoming single E30 (dropping June 14th). BIA 4.0 is full of melodic laden rage music. “All this shit got a car theme to this bitch, it’s really just crashout music, just music to play in the whip. Just throw that shit on when you’re angry and push that bitch, you feel me? It’s what you gotta do sometimes.” said Edgar. Heavy bass drops, vocal distortion and the “Westworld bitch!” ad-lib shook the ground as Midwxst went through the performance. A mix of rapping and melodic vocal runs showing the range of emotions Edgar captures with his music.
As the performance wound down, Midwxst performed a couple of prior singles. Fire (feat DC the Don) and Mistakes (feat 9lives). Fire is a melodic track where Edgar shows off his vocal talent over a beautiful beat produced by Zetra. He delivered lyrics about self doubt and heartbreak with DC talking about a relationship that didn’t end well and led to lies being spread by the other side of the relationship. Mistakes is more of a fun, dancier track produced by 9lives that details the initial reaction and eventual acceptance of a breakup.
I asked Midwxst a few questions about the project and these were his responses:
Q: Where’d the car theme idea come from?
A: “I’ve been into cars since I was a kid. I grew up playing Need For Speed, DiRT, and even building cars on ROBLOX, so making a project based on them was something that was bound to happen. I wanted to show love to the scene, and do it right, not in a corny or tacky way.”
Q: Did growing up in Indy also play into it? Did you ever go to the Indy 500?
A: “Yeah I actually went for the first time this year!! It was so fucking cool to see bro I had such a great time and being able to be at something so important to indiana and the communities here felt really nice.”
Q: What was the difference in thought processes between E3 and the Back in Action series?
A: “Back In Action has always been me making rap songs, E3 was an actual world building, intimate album in contrast. I spent a lot more time on E3, like a LOT more than I did on 4.0 or any back in action I’ve put out.”
Q: First song(s) made for BIA 4.0? Did you know they would be for BIA 4.0 or not?
A: “A.F.H, SOUL TIES, and E30 were the first songs I made for the project. I didn’t even know that they would end up being on the project. 4.0 kinda came impulsively cus I realized I hadn’t put out rap music in a minute and also had gotten so much better at making every element of each song memorable and catchy to the ear, which is what every single song on this project is.”
Midwxst’s set took the crowd by storm and showcased his versatility in the ever changing state of rap. Even though BIA 4.0 will be a full crashout project, I definitely recommend checking out his more sonically intriguing debut album E3 that he dropped in September of 2023 which is my personal favorite project of his. Also check out the rest of his Back in Action series for more crashout and boastful tracks. Don’t forget to listen to E30 as well as Back In Action 4.0 coming sometime in July (no official date announced yet).
